Barbara Sturm, 71, of New Haven, CT, became a Guardian Angel on Monday, November 25, 2019 while surrounded by family at Smilow Cancer Hospital following a brief fight with cancer. She was born on July 31, 1948 in Bridgeton, NJ to her late parents, Harry Cook and Dorothy Peploe.
Prior to her retirement in June of this year, she worked for over 30 years as a legal secretary at Wiggin & Dana. It was there that she met so many friends that she held dear to her heart.
Barbara managed to put a smile on her face, as well as those around her, despite a long painful battle with severe rheumatoid arthritis. The impact that Barbara had on her family and friends is one that will last a lifetime. She was considered “mom” to the many lives she touched and was considered the kindest person by all that knew her. She donated to numerous charitable organizations and buying presents for the Christmas Angel Project was especially rewarding to her.
She is survived by her loving husband of almost 51 years, Edward J. Sturm Sr., her son Edward J. Sturm Jr. (Michele Mckeegan) and daughter Teresa (Chris) Pettison.
A celebration of Barbara’s life with family and friends will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Barbara’s memory to the Smilow Cancer Hospital’s Closer to Free Fund (link below).
