Carole Christianson Barone

Carole Christianson Barone, 66, of Hamden, CT passed away Friday, November 8, 2019 surrounded by her family. She was born March 9, 1953 in New Haven, CT, to her late parents, Helen and Frank Christianson.  She grew up in Hamden, CT and after graduating from Hamden High School in 1971, she went on to receive a bachelor’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University.

Staying home to raise her first daughter turned into a successful home daycare beginning in 1985.  It was her experience in providing a loving environment for kids of all ages for 14 years that truly sparked her passion for working with children and prompted Carole to later obtain a master’s degree in education at Southern Connecticut State University.  For nearly 20 years, Carole was a patient and dedicated teacher at West Woods Elementary school in Hamden, CT during which she was awarded teacher of the year and spent her afternoons and weekends tutoring kids to achieve their best.

 After being diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer in August 2017, she took a leave from work and spent her days with family and friends while undergoing treatment.  She was charismatic, positive, strong and full of life during her cancer battle.

Carole is survived by her loving husband of 41 years, Charles Barone of Hamden, CT, her devoted three daughters Lindsay Hall (Jeff) of Westfield, MA, Laura Paice (Brian) of West Hartford, CT, and Leigh Barone (James Falco, Jr.) of Milford, CT. Carole was the proud “Mimi” to her grandchildren, Madison Hall, Alison Hall, Charleston Paice, Lennon Paice, Logan Paice, and baby boy Falco due in March 2020.  She is also survived by her sister, Linda Price and husband David Price of Wisconsin, and brother Frank Christianson and wife Patty Christianson of Stratford, CT, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Carole left this world having devoted her life to her family, friends and students and having impressed on them all the importance of happiness and kindness. She passed peacefully with the knowledge that her husband, children and grandchildren are cherished, adored and supported.

There will be a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations are welcome to be sent in her honor to the Smilow Cancer Hospital and Yale Cancer Center Closer to Free Fund, (www.givetoynhh.org/closertofree).
