Douglas Berardo Tribute

H. Douglas Berardo passed away on January 20, 2019 surrounded by his loving family after a long illness. 

He was born in Queens, NY on July 8, 1933 and raised in City Island, NY where he attended St Mary Star of the Sea Grammar School. He graduated from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY with a BA in History.  He served as a 2nd Lt in the Marine Corps until 1957.

On January 10, 1959, he married the love of his life, Patricia Hogan at Fort Slocum in New Rochelle, NY.  They settled in Rye, New York where they lived for 35 years and raised their family, before moving to Connecticut.

He was a former long-time member of The New York Athletic Club and Westchester Country Club, where he was an avid golfer.

He was the founder and publisher of “Lady Fare” in New York City, one of the first couponing magazines in the country in the 1960’s. He later became President and CEO of Communitype Corp. in New York City. He traveled extensively throughout Europe and Central America.

He loved people and always took an interest in finding out where someone was from and was always very interested in their story. He made friends wherever he went.  He was a very special person and will be forever missed by his family and friends.

He leaves his wife, Patricia and three sons, Christopher Berardo (Janet), Scott Berardo,( Michele)  Marc Berardo (Amy, Mitch, Emily), and beloved grandchildren (Caroline Elizabeth) and (Matthew Douglas) who were the light of his life.

There will be a Memorial Mass on Saturday February 2nd at 11:00AM at St Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Fairfield, Ct. The burial will be private.
