Marshall "Bud" Merritt Tribute

Marshall Lafayette Merritt Jr., best known as “Bud,” passed away on Monday, May 13th, 2019 at his residence in Bethel, Connecticut.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 45 years, Doris Merritt, his only child and son Marshall Merritt III, two grandchildren, Abel and Judah Ewud and dear friend James Davis.

Born in Scottsville, Kentucky and raised in Manchester, Tennessee, Bud was the youngest of four siblings and child to Marshall and Florence Merritt. He was a resident of Manchester, Tennessee until he met his beloved wife Doris on a vacation in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1974.

After meeting Doris at the Mardi Gras Festival and Parade, they fell in love and moved to Doris’ hometown of Redding, Connecticut. They were married that same year and were blessed with their son, Marshall Lafayette Merritt III, in 1978. Several years later, they relocated to a home in Bethel, Connecticut where they received the love of two beautiful grandchildren that filled Bud’s life with laughter and joy. He often loved to have them on his lap in his “comfy” chair, playing games with them or watching NASCAR and talking to them about the big race coming up.

Passionate about NASCAR, Harley Davidson, fishing and the Dallas Cowboys, Bud had a passion for life. With his unique country twang and quick sense of humor, he could often put a smile on anybody’s face and fill the room with laughter. He was a spirited man who was devoted to his grandchildren and loved his family dearly.

There will be an intimate and private memorial held for the family.
