Robert D. Stair

Robert D. Stair, 75, of East Hampton, CT, passed away on November 5, 2019 surrounded by his family. Robert fought a courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma for over 16 years. He had a fighting spirit and an incredibly positive attitude. He developed many friendships and served as an inspiration to all that he got to know at the Yale Smilow Cancer Center.

Robert (Bob) was born in Mount Union, PA on January 1, 1944. He graduated from Captain Jack High School in 1961. Bob went on to serve in the U.S. Navy for four years after high school, and then married his loving wife Maribel (Maria) Fernandez Lerida on June 26, 1966 in Cadiz, Spain. They just celebrated 53 years of marriage. After the Navy, Bob had a successful career in Aerospace that spanned over 35 years.

He enjoyed watching his favorite sports teams, which included the Red Sox, NY Giants, UConn Huskies Basketball (women's team and men's team), the Pittsburgh Steelers, and any team his grandchildren played on. He also coached Little League Baseball for many years. His favorite pastimes were fishing, sharing stories, visiting his family in Spain, and spending time with his grandchildren. He loved history and collecting DVDs. He appreciated a good cup of coffee and great food which was provided by the impeccable cooking skills of his wife Maria. He was also actively involved in supporting other cancer survivors by participating in many fundraisers and events to advocate for a cure for Multiple Myeloma.

Bob is survived by his wife Maria, his children Kathy (Kiki) DePasquale and Robert Stair, their spouses Nick DePasquale and Nancy Stair, and his five grandchildren Nicholas, Alex, Ryan, Jack and Isabella, and many friends and family members in Spain.

The family of Robert wishes to thank the Yale Smilow Cancer Center for all their support and care over the years, especially his favorite nurse Sunshine and the rest of the 7th floor team. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, November 9th at St. Mary's Church at 626 Willard Avenue in Newington, CT.
