Amy Hallberg Tribute

Mason's Island - Amy Jones Hallberg, born Sept. 4, 1959, grew up in Stonington – in Old Mystic and on Mason's Island – a place her family has called home for five generations. She passed in this same special place, at home surrounded by her family, Aug. 15, 2024. Amy stoically fought corticobasal degeneration over the last six years, a rare progressive disease that slowly paralyzed her. Amy embodied grace, and not once did she let the pains of this disease break her spirit. With quiet determination, she maintained a "joie de vivre" that will inspire us all forever.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years and the love of her life, John Andrew "Andy" Hallberg; and their four children: William Gray Hallberg, Sarah Andrias (David), Shepard Hallberg (Misha Faynzilberg) and Jackson Hallberg; three grandchildren, Lottie, Charlie and Cyrus Andrias; and three sisters, Margarett Jones (Jim Roy), Rosalind Jones and Natalie Mazel (Gregg).

Amy graduated from the Williams School in 1977, and Middlebury College in 1982. She taught French and Latin at the Taft School in Watertown, St. Bernard's School in New York City, in Gallup, New Mexico, and at Pine Point School in Stonington for 20 years. In 1980, she volunteered as a French interpreter at the Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid. A natural athlete, Amy was an avid skier, swimmer and runner. She completed several marathons, including Boston, and played in the USTA nationals with her tennis team. She also practiced meditation and was a dedicated yoga teacher.

She will be remembered for her good nature, kindness, beautiful smile and laughter. She was devoted to her family and friends and will forever live in all of our hearts.

A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Mason's Island Yacht Club.
