Barbara B. Johnston

Niantic - Barbara Bostelman Johnston born Jan. 4, 1939, and died peacefully Jan. 30, 2024.

She is survived by her children, Timothy Johnston, Jeffrey Johnston and Suzanne Smith. She is predeceased by her son George Johnston.

Her heart was always in Niantic beginning life in a house that her father Edward Bostelman built in Pine Grove. She owned and operated Ace Glass in Hartford for 15 years. In addition, she was a security officer at Pfizer and Mohegan Sun. In her retirement she enjoyed gardening, birdwatching and painting with her grandsons. She had a tremendous love for the Niantic River and volunteered her time on the East Lyme Harbor Management Commission for many years. She was devoted to maintaining the ecology of the river for future generations. She also was very passionate about fishing on the Black Hawk.

A private gathering will be held in the spring at Newington Center Cemetery.
