Barney Nathaniel Hutley, 59, of Elizabeth City, N.C., passed away on December 30, 2023. Barney was born in Hartford, Connecticut, the son of Clarence O. Burnam, Jr. and Lula B. Hutley. He is survived by his spouse Arena Simmons, his mother Lula B. Hutley, his brother Clarence Hutley, his sisters Elaine Hutley and Lorraine King, and his loving Aunt Mary Adams (Burnam) of Jacksonville Florida with whom he shared a special bond and greatly adored. Barney was preceded in death by his father Clarence O. Burnam, Jr. and his sister Pauline Hutley.
Barney was a graduate of Middletown High School in Middletown, Connecticut. Like his father, he worked as a painter, roofer, and in general construction for many years. He was well known around Hartford and had a passion for classic cars, the Dallas Cowboys football team, and old movies.
He also leaves behind two daughters, five grandchildren, his favorite niece Makeba Hutley and favorite nephew Kwan Hutley, and a host of friends and relatives.
May he rest in peace and may those who mourn his passing find solace in the memories that shaped their relationships with him.
