Emily Uhry died of melanoma March 21, 2026, at home with her family in Ridgefield, Connecticut. She was a writer and a mother of three.
Emily was born March 10, 1961, in New York City, the eldest of four daughters born to Joanna Kellogg and Alfred Uhry. She grew up on Manhattan's Upper West Side and attended The Calhoun School from preschool through high school. She went on to earn her B.A. in English and History from Brown University in 1983. She spent her twenties in San Francisco and moved back east to live her last 30 years in Connecticut. Emily was a voracious reader, consuming a new book every day or two. She kept her humor, wit, and singular perspective until the end.
She is survived by her children: Alene, Jim, and Eleanor Rhea, her father Alfred Uhry, and her sisters: Elizabeth Uhry MacCurrach, Kate Uhry, and Nell Uhry Burdett.
A memorial will be held in Manhattan in late spring.
