Groton - Everett L. Thomas Jr., 76, of Poquonnock Village in Groton, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital after a courageous battle with esophageal cancer. He was born Feb 18, 1946, in Brazil, Ind., the son of Everett L. and Millicent Rogers Thomas Sr.
Everett grew up and attended schools in Groton. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. Everett also worked many years at Mohegan Sun, retiring in 2015. He lived a simple, but well lived life . . . his way! Everything he did, he referred to as an "adventure." He traveled across the country by bus visiting various national parks. His love for the Grand Canyon and riding the mules to the bottom brought him back there on three separate occasions. Before his illness, he had talked of going back yet again for a fourth visit. Everett also loved hiking and clamming at Bluff Point, his trips to Fenway Park, and his weekly breakfast at Denny's with his great-niece Macy.
He will always be remembered as a loving, caring, and giving son, brother, uncle and friend to many. He leaves behind his five siblings: Linus Thomas, Gay Howard, Bruce Thomas Sr., Brenda Chopp and Glen Thomas Sr.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
To honor Everett's request, there will be no services. "Godspeed, Everett, on your next adventure. You are loved so much and already missed."
