Jill Elizabeth Brunet
July 19, 1952 ~ January 1, 2024 (age 71) 71 Years Old
Jill Brunet of Palermo, NY died January 1, 2024 after a long struggle with mycobacterium avium complex. Jill passed peacefully in the home of her daughter, Jennifer, in Fairfield, CT where she received treatment. She was 71.
Jill was born on July 19, 1952 to Robert and Phyllis Fraley of North Syracuse, NY. She is the granddaughter of Edna Sheridan who raised her after her father's death in 1963. Jill graduated from Cicero-North Syracuse High School in North Syracuse, NY in 1970 and married Jeffrey Brunet in 1971. Jeffrey's large and welcoming family became her own and they spent the next five decades together. Jill worked for 30 years in the legal field for a handful of firms in the Syracuse area. She ended her career as an intellectual property docketing administrator for Harris Beach PLLC.
Jill was an avid reader, making her way through nearly 100 books a year after her retirement. She loved the outdoors and could often be found working with her flowers at home or kayaking and fishing around Grass Lake in Theresa, New York, at her cabin. Jill's greatest joy of all was her children, Daniel, 44, and Jennifer, 41. They are her legacy. She prioritized their education from the beginning and dedicated herself to supporting their interests and abilities, ensuring that they went to college and graduated with the tools they needed to pursue careers and lives that seemed unattainable to her. Daniel graduated from Boston College, received a Fulbright scholarship to Berlin and is the Producing Artistic Director of English Theatre Berlin International Performing Arts Center in Germany where he lives with his wife and daughter. Jennifer is a graduate of Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and is now a communications consultant for international non-profits working on HIV prevention and other global health issues in the New York City area where she lives with her husband and two children.
Jill spent her last five years living with her grandchildren, Sylvie and Lucian (Louie) Shaw, and on daily FaceTime calls with Viola Brunet Migliorati in Berlin. The joy she experienced in the presence of her grandchildren (along with the exceptional care provided by NYU Medical) helped her live far longer than her prognosis. She is survived by her husband Jeffrey, her son Daniel (Stefania Migliorati) of Berlin, Germany, her daughter Jennifer (Joe Shaw) of Fairfield, CT, her three grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law and her brother David Fraley of Zephyr Hills, Florida.
