Joan Berdick, age 97, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2023.

Joan was born on January 27, 1926 and resided in Branford for almost 60 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Murray Berdick. She is survived by her daughter, Dena (John) Gattilia, grandchildren, Brighid (Tyler) Timek, Cili Cosgrove, Jennifer (Benjamin) Tibbetts, Anne Gattilia, and great-grandson, Lucas Timek. She was also "Bonus Mom" to many others.

Joan graduated from Smith College in 1947 with a degree in Chemistry and worked at Rockefeller University in New York City before moving to Branford. Joan was extremely generous with her time, supporting her Branford Community with her leadership and dedicated work on the Planning & Zoning Commission, Branford Land Trust, Inland Wetlands Commission, James Blackstone Memorial Library Board of Trustees, and the Democratic Party. She was also an enthusiastic world traveler.

Joan lived a long and full life and will be greatly missed by her family and friends who cherished her and reaped the benefits from her love of gourmet cooking, sense of humor, devotion and loyalty.
