WATERBURY – Linda M. Girard, 83, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully at home on Feb. 6, 2024, after a long and tough battle with Alzheimer’s disease/dementia.
Born in Waterbury to the late Lyzbeth (Dermody) and Linwood Durette, Linda grew up in Union City, graduating from Naugatuck High School and eventually moving to Waterbury. She worked for The Taft School for many years, where she was well-loved and deeply respected by many of the people she crossed paths with until she retired.
Linda was always there to listen and offer a shoulder to cry on to her friends and family. Family was very important to Linda, and she always made her children feel deeply loved. She enjoyed trips to the casino, reading, and traveling.
She is survived by her five children, Debra Pollard of Waterbury, Robert Girard II (Kim) of Oakville, Lori Girard (Bobby) of Waterbury, Michael Girard (Tammy) of Virginia Beach, Va., and Shanyn Walker (Danny) Southington; 10 grandchildren, David, Dawn, Tracy, Justin, Ashley, Amanda, Krystal, Jessica, Katie, and Nevaeh; and 14 great-grandchildren; as well as her many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
She was predeceased by her brother, Lynwood Durette (Eleanor); sister Patricia Hillman (Carl), and sister Elizabeth Soderberg (Arthur).
Linda’s daughter Debra also served as her caregiver when she started showing signs of Alzheimer’s disease and continued caring for her until the day she passed. Debra’s siblings would like to express their gratitude for selflessly attending to all of Linda’s needs.
A memorial service and burial will be at St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck, at the family’s convenience.
