Martha A. (Belfiore) Belanger of Southington passed away November 28th, surrounded by her family after an 18-month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born April 2, 1959 in Waterbury and attended Watertown High School where she met her husband of 43 years, Jerry Belanger.
Throughout her high school years she was involved in many activities, most prominently the Oakville Watertown Drum Corps as drum major, a love for which she passed on to her daughters who were involved in the Southington High School marching band. After working for 5 years at the Banking Center in Waterbury, she was employed for 43 years as a Patient Accounts Biller for the Institute of Living and then later Hartford HealthCare. As her daughters grew up, she spent her time volunteering in their various activities acquiring such titles as “PTA mom”, “girl scout mom”, “soccer mom”, and “band uniform lady”. Martha also enjoyed activities like golfing, sewing (she made her own wedding gown and many other garments for family), knitting, crafting, and shopping online (obtaining Kohls cash whenever possible). She had a passion for Elvis music instilled by her father, and was never shy about her devotion to the Yankees… opposite to her husband’s love for the Red Sox! Later in life, Martha enjoyed traveling, gardening, relaxing by the pool, and spending time with her family being the best “Grammy” and “Mimi” to her three beautiful grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Martha is survived by her brother Stephen Belfiore, in Thomaston; her sister Lisa (Belfiore) Davis (Russell Davis) of Waterbury; brother Paul Belfiore (Sharon Belfiore) of Bristol; sister-in-law Janice (Belanger) Peluso, and her partner Michael Skelsky of Bristol; her daughter, Maegan (Belanger) Ozerhoski (Steven Ozerhoski) of Naugatuck, daughter Jocelyn (Belanger) Pellegrino (Christian Pellegrino) of Naugatuck; her three adored grandchildren, Cash, Shaelynn, and Owen; as well as many loving cousins, and life-long friends. She is predeceased by her parents Sebastian J. Belfiore, and Marietta (Braucci) Belfiore of Waterbury, and her sister-in-law Cynthia Belfiore of Thomaston.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date at the family’s discretion. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Connecticut Humane Society. The family would like to thank the staff at the Hartford HealthCare Cancer Institute at The Hospital of Central Connecticut for their exceptional care throughout Martha’s treatment.
