Richard Humphrey Tribute

Richard A (Dick) Humphrey passed away quietly at home in Sherman, CT on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.

He crossed the Finish Line at 88 years old. Earning a Checkered Flag as a Winner for a life well lived.

Born on January 5, 1937 in Brookfield, CT to Jeanette Hollister Humphrey of Washington, CT and Burton G Humphrey of New Preston, CT, sixth of eight siblings with whom he made many fun memories with over the years. You cannot be in a family with eight siblings and not adopt a sense of adventure, sense of humor, sense of mischief and sense of curiosity, as well as a sense of appreciation for each other. All suited and represented and reflected Dick Humphrey well over his lifetime.

He was pre-deceased by brother Burton G Humphrey Jr, sister Barbara Mangum, brother George Humphrey and survived by brother & Co-Owner with him of Burt Humphrey & Sons in Danbury for many years, James (Jim) Humphrey & Wife Merry of Danielson, CT, sister Alice Lund of Avon, CT, sister Joan Andrews & Husband Al of Searsport, Maine. sister Nancy Albert & Husband Claude of Haddam, Ct. Many Nieces & Nephews, all of whom he enjoyed much of over the years.

He was also predeceased in 2024 by his 4-legged best friend and sidekick, Goober.

Richard Humphrey is survived by Daughter Janet Wilson & Husband Donnie Wilson, their children Donald Wilson & Zoey Wilson of Ramsey, NJ. Donna Gilchrist of Stockton Springs, Maine & her children RJ & his Wife Kim Gilchrist of Newtown, CT & Jordan Gilchrist or Danbury, CT. Granddaughter Grace Humphrey of Woodinville, WA & estranged Son Rick Humphrey of Redmond, Washington.

It is with much gratitude we thank Joe Fioccola for being an amazing friend and support to Dad, especially in the past few years. And we thank the many others who also showed up and shared friendship and kindness with him.

Despite the obstacles and impositions and challenges he needed to overcome on his ride, Dick Humphrey lived a good life, he did everything he dreamed of, he never settled for can't nor limitations as a measure of what he would and could do and be, he embraced every day even in his latter years. He earned everything, including high regard of many. He was the epitome of respectable, respectful, kind, smart and good. He was a good father, good role model, good friend to many, good businessman, good problem solver and a VERY good Man. He rode the ride, raced a good race, found his joy in every which place. If you knew him, you valued him. Flannel shirts, baseball cap with a race team logo seemed his uniform...

Forever embedded in our hearts and many good memories as we are deeply saddened by and sharing our loss.

A Celebration of Richard (Dick) Humphrey's Life will take place at Candlelight Farms Airport in Sherman, CT on Sunday April 27th at 2:00 p.m.
