Salvatore “Sal” F. Mangiagli, 68, of Moodus CT (formally of Haddam, CT) peacefully passed away on Monday, August 12, 2024, lovingly surrounded by his family and friends. Sal was born in Hartford, CT on November 24, 1955 to Ann Marie (Pallotti) Mangiagli and the late Frank Mangiagli. Sal grew up in Wethersfield, CT where he was fondly known as “Skipper” and established many life-long friends.
Sal is survived by his three children Nichole, Cody and Justice Mangiagli. He is also survived by his sister Rita and brother-in-law Wayne Bristol and his brother Frank and sister-in-law Julie Mangiagli. He was lovingly known as “Tata” to his six grandchildren Damique Gayle, Ava Rose, Faith Schiffer, and Chase, Aurora and Meadow Mangiagli. He is also survived by his ex-wife Rosemary Bassilakis, his sweet dog Zora and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sister Laura Ann Gross and ex-wife Dawn Hall.
Sal had a lifelong career in carpentry where he delighted his customers with an endless array of building skills. He was also a master furniture builder, handcrafting one-of-a-kind pieces such as cabinets and tables from old boards.
To know Sal was to understand his deep and all-encompassing love for music. Rare was it to see the TV on, but there was always a record spinning. Music helped to ignite a passion in Sal for social justice, politics and the environment – issues that he always enjoyed sharing and debating!
Sal was an exceptional human being. Humble and kind, he was a loving and considerate man who profoundly touched many lives. His love for adventure took him all over this marvelous country and supplied us with a plethora of entertaining and often unbelievable stories. His recognition of the beauty in all things, coupled with his compassionate nature and genuine selflessness truly made an impact on everyone who has known him.
There was only one Sal, and he will be missed. An exceptionally fantastic Celebration of Life is being planned for early October. Details for the event will be announced through the online obituary link and social media platforms. Peace & Love Always
