Timothy J. Smith

Timothy J. Smith unexpectedly passed away at his home on Wednesday, November 2, 2022.

Tim was born to the late Stephen and Bertha Smith in Norwalk, CT on July 8, 1963, though he spent most of his life in New Milford, CT. He married his high school sweetheart, Zina (Mellas), to which they shared their lives together for well over 30 years. Their love also gave them their precious only daughter, Hope.

Timothy attended the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, graduating in 1984. He then went on to work for Smith Brothers Construction as a carpenter for 30 years. After this, he worked overnight at Home Depot as a freight operator for four years. Tim was fondly known for his sense of humor to brighten anyone’s day and put a smile on their face.

Tim is predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Robert and John; and his parents-in-law, Charles and Rita Mellas. He is survived by his devoted wife, Zina Smith, and loving daughter, Hope M. Smith. He is also survived by his brothers, Bill (and wife Cheryl in Maine), Alan (and wife Elizabeth in Florida); his sisters, Linda Smith of Kent, CT, and Janice Santangelo (and husband Daniel in Florida); brother-in-law, James Mellas; sisters-in-law, Constance Mellas, and Catherine Covino (and husband Gary of Connecticut); and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

A Memorial Service for Tim will be held in the Spring of 2023. The Cremation Society of New England is honored to have been entrusted with Tim’s care and final arrangements.
